Safe Sanctuary Information

God calls us to create communities of faith where children and adults grow safe and strong. (The Book of Resolutions of the United Methodist Church.)  First United Methodist Church Washington in compliance with a resolution passed by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church in April 1996 created a Safe Sanctuary Policy that was initially approved in 2006.

In March 2017 an updated version was approved by Church Council.   The Safe Sanctuary Policy calls for us to provide training and guidance to volunteers and staff who work with children and youth.    Below is a copy of our policy, a training video for volunteers and staff and a quiz which is a step towards being trained for Safe Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church.

2017 Safe Sanctuary Committee:  Janet Cooper, Patty Peebles, Kim Edwards, Janice LaBarbera, Sarah Purvis, Laura Davis, Lauren Riddick and Pastor Ken Hall.
